I am a Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. I have been an educator for over 35 years. I graduated in 1985 from Liberty Baptist College, now known as Liberty University, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. After graduation my husband and I moved to Florida for a year and a half where I taught first grade in a private Christian school. I hated Florida! As a native of this area, I missed my mountains so my husband brought me home. I substituted for a while when I first returned. I got a job as a long term sub for Lynchburg City as a kindergarten teacher. Then I found a full time position working with preschoolers as part of Head Start. I worked with Head Start for over a decade before getting a job with Amherst County Public Schools as a second grade teacher in 1999. Between 1999 and 2005 I was blessed to teach second and third. One year our principal even allowed me to partner with a colleague to teach a 3rd/4th grade combo classroom.
Forever being a teacher who is not afraid to try new things, I was excited to accept a position in 2005 as an instructional technology resource teacher for Amherst County. If you have older children in our school, they will remember me from the STEAM lab. I loved working with the students in the STEAM lab but as a resource teacher, I was teaching over 1200 students every month because my time was divided between 3 different schools. I missed having my own classroom!
I am excited to return to the classroom. I want to work with you to make sure that your child is thrilled with school and wants to learn! I will not always get things right (do any of us) but I will try my best. You are always welcomed to reach out to me with any need. You can always call upon me to help you, to answer a question, to just be there as a partner with you in helping your child grow as a learner.
Before returning to the classroom this year as an instructional technology resource teacher for 18 years. I completed my NETS*T certification which my state requires of all Instructional Technology Resource Teachers. I completed my masters degree in educational administration in 2009 and my Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012. My masters came from Liberty University and my educational specialist degree came from Virginia Tech. Both of these are amazing schools! I consider myself to be a life long learner. Below are examples of my work that have been completed to show my growth throughout my certification and degree processes. When you click on the links a new window will open.
