I so understand how Annette feels. I am not the brightest in the bunch when it comes to math!

![]() There was a song once perfomed by the Carpenters, a singing group from the 1970s, that was called Rainy Days and Mondays. In the song, Karen Carpenter sang that rainy days and Mondays always get her down. Well today is a rainy Monday and in addition to having to work on a rainy Monday, my colleagues and I are busy pulling together documentation to prove that our division is using technology to enhance student learning. This is SO much fun. NOT! It's hard to recall all the wonderful things that teachers have done over the past few years with the students in order to help students grow. I guess classroom teachers have to stress about the success of their students on the SOL test so the least I can do is stress a little over this audit. My personal SOL test! Yay me! The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but not folly. This is a quote from Jim Rohn, a motivational speaker and author. I saw it in one of my principal's offices. I liked it so reposted it here.
The following video was created by fifth graders at Amherst Elementary School as a submission for a contest sponsored by the Virginia School Board Association. The 30 second video clip was done entirely by students as a means to promote public school education. Amherst has a lot of student talent!
My colleage, Gail Moore is always looking out for wonderful sites that support good instruction and recently shared this link with me: https://www.teachthought.com/apps-2/20-ipad-apps-to-teach-elementary-reading/.
Check it out! It has some great ideas for using the IPad in reading instruction. ![]() I love Flat Stanley! I really like the IPhone App that puts Flat Stanley anywhere with just a click. Email me if you want me to come to your classroom to take a picture of your students with Flat Stanley. It would be fun to see how many Flat Stanley pictures we could post!!! In this picture, Flat Stanley is standing on my shelf in my school office with all my bears. He feels right at home since most of my bears are the same size as he. Take a really close look and you can see my Redskin Bear in the background. I have a co-worker that really rolls his eyes at my bears. But inside, I know he is probably jealous because he can't stand on my shelf and play with my bears like Flat Stanley does. If you click on the picture you can see some more of my Flat Stanley pictures. Instructional technology resource teachers (ITRTs) provide on-site and on demand assistance for fellow
teachers to create different forms of learning and teaching with the help of technologies. They seek to improve student learning by showing teachers the thoughtful applications and best practices of these new tools.

Melanie LewisHi, my name is Melanie Lewis. I am an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for Amherst County Public Schools, located in the beautiful state of Virginia. I LOVE my job! I get to work on my hobby, anything that has to do with computers. I get to work with teachers and students, and I am definitely a people person. Plus, I DO NOT have to give grades. Wonderful, huh? Let me know how I can help you better integrate technology into your classroom. Archives
