In one of my schools I am working with a group of fifth graders on writing skills. Last week we researched someone we admired and composed a paragraph on Smart Notebook software. I had the students put each sentence into its own text box so that we could manipulate them. I wanted them to see how to structure their paragraphs so that the writing would read more fluently. After we finished with our paragraphs, we took screen shots. Below are our biographies.
I was catching up on my blog readings when I came across a great post on Langwitches which was showcasing an app called Pic Collage. She was having first graders use this app to create a collage showing the life cycle of a butterfly. What a wonderful idea!!! Of course I had to download the app and try this as well. Below is my collage. The only tweak I may make is in how the students get their collage off the IPad and onto my computer. Email is not an option for us at this time; however, the collages do save an an image file which can be downloaded to a computer. Very nice app. I intend to get my hands on a set of elementary IPads and plan a lesson using this tool.
_Hi, my name is Melanie Lewis. I am an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for Amherst County Public Schools,
located in the beautiful state of Virginia. I LOVE my job! I get to
work on my hobby, anything that has to do with computers. I get to work
with teachers and students, and I am definitely a people person. Plus,
I DO NOT have to give grades. Wonderful, huh? Let me know how I can help you better integrate technology into your classroom.
