In Amherst County we have been experimenting with various learning management systems. We have Moodle which is our official one. Teachers have also been using Edmodo for a couple of year now in Amherst. Edmodo is very engaging for students as it looks a great deal like Facebook. Recently our new Director of Instruction, Mrs. Dana Norman, showed us Schoology which is similar to Edmodo with a more adult look. The nice thing about Edmodo and Schoology is that they are so easy to use. Moodle is a little daunting until you get to know it well. Today I stumbled across a new LMS called DIIPO. Like Edmodo and Schoology, students need a passcode from the teacher to access their class. This keep the class very private and only allows students in that class the option of participating with each other. While Edmodo and Schoology give you a Facebook sort of feeling, Diipo presents itself like Twitter. It has a few more bells and whistles and while the sign in page doesn't look like much, both the teacher and the student have the option of customizing the theme of their page.
Hi, my name is Melanie Lewis. I am an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for Amherst County Public Schools, located in the beautiful state of Virginia. I LOVE my job! I get to work on my hobby, anything that has to do with computers. I get to work with teachers and students, and I am definitely a people person. Plus, I DO NOT have to give grades. Wonderful, huh? Let me know how I can help you better integrate technology into your classroom.
