Another site Bill runs is called Bill's Treasure Chest. Here you can find all sorts of writing prompt ideas (or students can) by clicking on a picture which takes you to a special blog. Students may be asked to write about there family, their wishes, etc. You could have the students post their writing on a class blog of your own or they can submit their stories to Bill's blog.
One of my favorite things to do with students is to allow them to create a comic strip in order to tell a story. I have tried many comic strip creators in the past years and many great ones are out there. However, I have just stumbled across the best one ever! It is called Make Beliefs.Comix and uses characters created by Bill Zimmerman, a very well known comic strip writer. His comix site contains a how to guides and lesson plans and ideas galore! One of my favorite ideas has students taking 20 minutes each day to reflect on what they have learned by putting the info into a comic strip. How fun! _Hi, my name is Melanie Lewis. I am an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for Amherst County Public Schools,
located in the beautiful state of Virginia. I LOVE my job! I get to
work on my hobby, anything that has to do with computers. I get to work
with teachers and students, and I am definitely a people person. Plus,
I DO NOT have to give grades. Wonderful, huh? Let me know how I can help you better integrate technology into your classroom.
